Preschool is sunlight streaming into classrooms, rainbows on rainy days, playdough being shaped into something wonderful, going up in a swing, the smile of someone your same size, painting with bright colors, trying to please, praise for things well done, acceptance in the eyes of the teacher, and acceptance of individual differences. Preschool is experience and wonder and challenge and accomplishment. It is a time to be, to feel and to know. It is a time for step by step achievements. It is order, but not conformity, and expression of interests, but not lack of discipline that results in random activity. It is feeling, sharing, learning. Preschool is a home away from home. We hope that Isle of Hope Preschool will tell your child “I Am Special,” because we certainly believe that to be true.

Our program takes what is commonly called an experimental approach. We provide numerous opportunities for the children to learn by doing, to share experiences, to talk about themselves and their world and to accomplish hands-on-tasks. We know preschoolers share certain identifiable characteristics and needs. We know they are curious about God’s world and that they are eager to discover and explore. We recognize their need for praise and encouragement. We want them to feel happy about their friends and surroundings. Their sense of fantasy is strong and they are uninhibited, imaginative and creative. Yet their attention span is limited. That means they need quiet, seated activities to be mixed with various active physical activities. We provide this approach of development to let your child know that he or she is special because…he or she is.

Isle of Hope Preschool enjoys a wonderful relationship with the public and private schools our children attend when they leave our program. We recognize that some of those schools have admissions testing, therefore, we have structured a strong academic preschool program, particularly for our 4-year-olds.

However, as preschool professionals, we also recognize that cognitive development can only be achieved when children have reached the proper level of maturation, a maturation that child development experts tell us is determined at the time of conception! Once a child is mature enough to understand academic concepts, teaching those concepts is effortless. Before a child is ready, teaching academic concepts is next to impossible. Each child should be taught in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the unique characteristics of that child. That is our mission-to work with your child in a way that meets his or her developmental needs.

Research does show that preschoolers in a high-quality academic program are more verbally fluent, show memory and comprehension advantages and even achieve higher IQ scores than most stay-at-home children. Preschoolers also tend to be more self-confident, independent and sociable when they attend kindergarten.
