Who We Are as United Methodists

United Methodists hold to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. We are a Protestant movement and we hold a wide range of theological beliefs. Three main books inform our faith and practices; the Bible, the Methodist Hymnal, and the Book of Discipline. As Methodists, we have a passionate faith and strong convictions, but we also believe, along with our founder, John Wesley, “As to all opinions which do not strike at the root of Christianity, we think and let think.” We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion.

Methodists have been known for our emphasis on a personal faith, lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have historically valued, well-informed and passionate preaching, worship that is lively, and small groups where people can grow in their faith.

We at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church welcome you with open hearts, open minds, and open doors to learn more about the Christian faith.
