Worship
Serve on Worship Planning Committee
Worship is the heart of our congregation’s spiritual life. At Isle of Hope UMC, we work to plan and lead worship that is creative, inclusive, meaningful, and leads people to a closer relationship with God and one another. The Committee works with the pastors and worship participants to design and coordinate the worship services, particularly in the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany and Lent/Easter/Pentecost season cycles.
- Time Commitment: Committee term is one year, beginning in January. Meetings will occur approximately once per quarter.
Acolyte
Assist in our Sunday morning worship services by bringing the light of Christ into our worship service. You would also be available to assist the pastors as needed during worship. Only for 3rd thru 6th graders.
- Time commitment: During worship, once per month.
Altar Steward
The role of the Altar Steward is to assist in the week-to-week preparations for Sunday worship. You also help prepare the Sanctuary for special holidays, such as Lent, Easter, Advent, and other special occasions.
- Time Commitment: 45 minutes-1 hour, usually on Saturdays; Rotating schedule.
Audio/Visual or Soundboard Operator
Oversees microphones and sound during Sunday worship services or at special events. Providing sound and video support for all of the different ministries of the church.Training is provided.
- Time commitment: Rotating schedule or as needed/as available.
Communion Server
The first Sunday of each month is celebrated with Communion. Four congregation members assist the pastors by holding the cup or giving the bread.
- Time Commitment: 20-30 minutes, rotating schedule and during the Communion of the people.
Communion Steward
Prepare the altar with the bread and juice the Saturday before Communion Sunday. Also responsible for replenishing the bread and juice after the 8:45 AM Worship Service and/or cleaning up the Communion elements after the 11:15 AM service.
- Time Commitment: approximately 1 hour the Saturday before; Rotating schedule.
Flower Guild
Fresh flowers in the worship service are beautiful to the eye and a gentle reminder of God’s beautiful creations. You can arrange flowers for the Sunday morning worship services or have them donated in memory or honor of a loved one or special occasion.
- Time Commitment: Rotating schedule; at least 4 times per year.
Greeter
We want all persons to feel like honored guests from the first minute they arrive at our red doors. Greeters warmly welcome members and guests as they arrive for worship, answering questions and giving directions as needed.
- Time Commitment: Rotating schedule. Arrive 20 minutes prior to service.
Lay Reader
The reading of scriptures and other sacred texts in worship is a vital part of the service. We regularly have lay readers in our seasonal services and would like to involve lay readers in more Sunday morning services. Readers will be scheduled and given the texts in advance.
- Time Commitment: Rotating schedule; as needed.
Seasonal Decorating
Join with others and the Flower Guild to help create decorations for the sanctuary and the church during Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and other special services.
- Time commitment: Seasonal; as needed
Ushers
Ushers warmly welcome all worshippers, provide them with worship bulitin, and help them find a seat as needed. During each service, the ushers take up the morning offering, and during Holy Communion, they direct folks to the Table.
- Time Commitment: Rotating schedule.
