IOHUMC Managed Experiences
Tapachula, Mexico- June 1-8, 2019
For this experience, we partner with Mission on the Move missionaries Adam and Jennifer Balduff in providing services and care to the children’s home they help to run. House parents that watch over the children are given a much needed vacation while we are there, so our primary task in care taking of the children. This entails cleaning, cooking, washing, and some light labor (painting, repair, etc.). The focus of the trip is relational in nature, giving participants an opportunity to make a connection to the children of Tapachula, which leaves an indelible mark on the participant and the children served.
Santa Elena, Honduras- July 20-26, 2019
This experience works with Mission on the Move missionaries Ernie and Allison Sizemore, and Rev. Brian and Charity Scott. The primary focus is construction of a home for children in the Honduran foster care system. There are some opportunities to take care of children and support community training efforts.
Antigua, Guatemala- November 3-8, 2019 (tentative)
IOHUMC has financially supported various ministries in the beautiful city of Antigua for a number of years. Recently, we felt the call to be more relational with these groups, so as to offer the love of Christ in a more holistic way. The trip is still in its infancy, but entails relational and hands on work. We partner with the wheelchair and prosthetics organization Transitions Foundation, the education and nutrition agency Vamos Adelante, and the children’s home we support with a sponsorship program, The Christ Child’s Nest. We also take the opportunity to visit other local ministries that the church as supported over the years.

outside managed experiences
These are a few organizations that setup and manage experiences that IOHUMC church members have been a part of in the past:
Faith in Practice- Medical Missions
FIP is a medical mission organization that serves people in need in the country of Guatemala. IOHUMC sends medical personnel to the hospital in Antigua to provide much needed surgeries and treatments for those who live in the area. We typically have church members participate in one of two February trips, but there are teams that travel there throughout the year that you can apply to be a part of. If you are interested in participating in one of these trips or would like more information, click here to visit their website.
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission- Southeastern Jurisdiction (UMVIM-SEJ)
UMVIM is a UMC supported agency that seeks to equip those called to missional service and connect them with service opportunities on a short-term and long-term basis. Churches around the southeast connect with UMVIM and share their need for team members, which UMVIM then shares with any who ask. Check out their website to learn more about experiences that are available all over the world!
